TED – The opportunity for positive change out of the recession

This TED talk explores the positive shifts that have arisen out of the otherwise negative recession

1. Less excess allows you to be more nimble in life, less frivolous spending (i.e: less bling, high end haggling in luxury sector, blue-collar yacht clubs, agricultural tourism)

2. Ethics, empathy, respect demanded from businesses that now have to provide value (and values) in their products. Unemployment up, so volunteering rises too.

3. Durable living, with consumers looking for greater value in purchases (cars bought for longevity, library cards and borrowing up, DIYincreased, home farming)

4. Trust, social engagement, community and co-operative consumerism – local products, services, currencies, bargaining, advice, transparency.
