Interesting talk at the Google campus about how technology that is supposed to help us manage our time is potentially hindering us instead. It’s about not having enough time to do real thinking because it’s easier to do the “fast tasks” (immediately do-able) rather than creating space to do real thinking.
I’ve got a theory that we’re slowly going to become more stupid or narrow minded as a species as we increasingly become reliant on the internet, wikipedia etc, and only regurgitate old information that’s been biased by Occidental history or frames of thought… The above talk has similar fears – that the technology designed to make things automated and easier to do means that instead of thinking for ourselves we end up managing pre-existing information. It made me think.
