Mag+ prototype has teamed up with Popular Science magazine to create a digital magazine app for the iPad. The video above demonstrates how the app works and talks through the thinking behind it. Shame about the lack of search function… that would be most useful.

Creative Review has an article looking at the future of magazines as a digital media. Clearly, the impact of the iPhone on touch screen technology in every day use, getting users comfortable with it etc, has been huge.

FUTU magazine‘s video presentation really caught my eye.  Interesting use of graphics and perspective on a traditional format.

Also worth noting is the new spiral bound versions of Tank magazine, which no doubt helps cut their costs down, but I think adds to the longevitiy and preservation of the magazine.

FIXED is the first book to document global fixed-gear culture. It joins the dots between the bike’s design, its racing heritage and the customization that marks its appearance on our city streets. It meets the track stars, tricksters, messengers, hill bombers and polo players the world over, linking them to the artists, designers and framebuilders whom the bike has inspired.

The Future of Media is a topic that interests us at TheScrapBook, and the emerging trend for personalised magazines is worth noting. On the one hand, why would I want a magazine to do for me what I already do/get via the internet… on the other hand, print media is more relaxing, engaging, less distracting, and can be used on aeroplanes!

That’s why HSBC has launched personalised in-flight magazines, and why Time magazine has launched “Mine” – a publication of articles from Time associated press tailored for your specific interests.
